Celebrating World Oceans Day 2018

World Oceans Day 2018 is focusing their efforts on spreading awareness of plastic pollution in our waters. This is something that falls close to the hearts of our clients, franchisees, and employees as they love spending time in or around the beautiful oceans of British Columbia.

We have partnered with a number of recycling facilities in the Lower Mainland, Tri-Cities and Fraser Valley to help us divert as much material from local landfills as possible. Plastics are one of the main materials that we recycle. Over the past 2 years we have been able to recycle over 15,000 pounds of plastic drums and containers from Sipco Bioengineering in Delta. Arda Akoglu, VP of Operations, says “Sipco is committed to creating innovative solutions for a healthier planet.”

The province of BC has also recently made a number of huge steps in cutting down on plastic pollutions. A few weeks ago the City of Vancouver announced that they would be banning the distribution of polystyrene foam cups and containers, as well as restrictions on disposable cups and plastic shopping bags.

If you missed it, last month we posted a blog about the South Delta Shoreline Cleanup. Our General Manager of the Vancouver Franchise, Alex Elsey, and a group of 85 volunteers, helped collect 5,200 pounds of litter along the South Delta shoreline.

Let’s keep working together and do our part to keep our oceans clean for future generations! Share this blog post to help create awareness of World Oceans Day 2018.
