Green Business Award Finalists

Green Business of the Year Finalists

505-Junk was a finalist for Green Business of the Year at the Richmond Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, which took place at the River Rock Casino on November 22nd, 2018. It was an honour to be nominated for this award alongside Pacific Gateway Hotel and Easterbrook Farms. Both companies are doing amazing initiatives to keep our community green.

We strive on running a green-friendly business by diverting as much material as possible from the landfills. We do this by donating or recycling everything that we can. Last year we were able to divert approximately 4-5 million pounds of material from landfills across the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. Our company has a strong passion for the outdoors, whether it’s city walks along the seawall, fishing in our oceans and rivers, hiking and snowboarding on the local mountains, along with many more activities. We want to make sure that future generations can enjoy the same clean oceans, rivers, forests and mountains that we do. We feel the best way to do that is by eliminating the amount of waste that ends up in these beautiful areas!

And the results are in…

At the end of the night, it was Pacific Gateway Hotel that took the award, and we couldn’t be proud of them. The steps that they have done to change the standards of what a green hotel can be are unbelievable. One of the many initiatives they have done that stands out to us was eliminating all the individual toiletries with zero-waste pumps (keeping up to 246,000 plastics bottles out of landfills per year)!

We’d like to congratulate all the businesses that were nominated as finalists and a big congratulations to all those that won the award in their categories! We cannot wait to see what next year’s event brings!
